Greg Williams is a visual journalist with the Tampa Tribune. He produces a brilliant online feature called BlogJam, where he converts blog posts and other journalism pieces into cartoons for the Tribune.
A few months ago Greg contacted me and asked if he could do a comic based on my frozen head post Yeah, But Imagine The Ice Cream Headache. As you can imagine, I said "YES" immediately.
I'm thrilled to announce that his most excellent cartoon of my post was published today and is the featured comic on the Tampa Tribune's web site.
Thanks Greg. I absolutely love this piece and it's a huge honor to have you do it. I especially like "The Receders" reference on my tee shirt. Nice!
I encourage all of you to stop by here and check out Greg's archives. As you can clearly see, he's a very talented artist with an excellent eye for great material ;-)

O.M.G. How cool! Now you're going to be famous on MANY levels! I'm so proud! Way to go!! sis
I didn't realize you had that much hair!
You need to call him for some frame-able copy--that is pretty good.
Congrats - very cool!
Wow that is very cool!
that's awesome!
That's fantastic! Will you be too famous for the likes of us now ;O)
jaffer - No kidding. Greg does a great job :-)
kathy - Thanks. I really enjoyed that a lot.
sis - ...14...13...12...11... Hey I'll take it all the same!
ed - Hey, easy with the hair comments buddy! ;b
april - I agree. Thanks!
heather - Isn't he awesome?
sandy - I'd say. How often do you get to have you blog toonsized?
beetle - Oh yeah... I can barely respond to all you common folk right now. ;-)
Wow, that is so cool! I'll have to check out more of his stuff.
That's awesome! And I bet you will got lots of extra blog traffic too!
That's so freakin' cool! Congrats.
Way cool, can I get your autograph?
Did you have to promise a free Receders album for such a great cartoon?
Very cool. This is one to get printed out and mounted or ummm some crafty way saved. Love it! And congrats, of course.
I think our one claim to fame will be that we are YOUR parents!!!Congratulations!!! We are so proud of you!
In five years of reading and writing blogs, this is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen happen to a blogger!
Congrats!
Sweet! Nice publicity. Are you getting thousands of readers now? Can I have your autograph?
That is outstanding. I thought I was in a comic strip once, but it turns out it was just Garfield.
That is awesome. Have you ordered the posters, post cards and tees yet? I would.
Congrats!
Congratulations! This is fabulous . . . but it did raise one question for me: can you really be an ex-'80s hair band member and a member of the Receders! :-)
Thank you to all of you for your kind congratulations notes. I don't know why but for some reason having your work immortalized in a caricature is very exciting.
In response to a couple of your questions:
- No, this didn't increase my traffic much. Probably because the Tribune doesn't provide an active link back to the blogs Greg draws.
- Yes, I do plan to have this made into a poster for sure.
- Yes, I can be an ex-'80s hair band member and a member of The Receders. That's what the "ex" stands for now.
That is awesome and amazing - I bow to your greatness!
Okay.... don't know where my comment disappeared to, but I said something like this:
Awesome Jeff!
You should change your header to that caricature of ya; that's great!
Congrats!!!!
wow! congratulations! How wonderfully special!
Super cool! Love it!
Way to go! I liked the robot doctor.
Oh yeah, and nice neck
rick - Well you know... that's what caricature artists do, they exaggerate the features. For example, he did that with my hairline and hair color too. Yeah, that's it.
One more. I wasn't here for your favorite SNL characters. Jon Lovitz as Master Thespian, the Devil in Peoples Court, and the high school losers with Tom Hanks. He cracked me up.
awesome job, from both of you! and he captured your forehead perfectly.
That is very cool!
I love this, and I'm so jealous. I WANT ONE! But my posts are way too long.
Yours, however, are perfect. I love this guy's idea and creativity.
I wanna see more!
Whoa !!!
What a brilliant idea (and a great artist too), and yet so useful, I mean until now if a relative had karked it while visiting I would never have thought of covering their head with ice for fear that the first question the police would ask is "who suffocated him with ice then ?", top tip noted for future reference.
Sweet!
Say...could you hook me up?
And he did a really good job of drawing you.
