People often ask me what my favorite Christmas present was when I was a kid. Ok, nobody ever asks me that, but I actually do have one present that seems to have had an everlasting impact on me.
What I'm talking about is a complete Hot Wheels Sizzlers race set - and it was spectacular! I'm not sure exactly how old I was but I think I was around 9 or 10, which is probably close since this toy was released in 1970. And I don't know why this particular gift left such an impression but for whatever reason it holds the distinction of being the most impressive toy I ever received.
Perhaps it was because it was so unexpected. I remember being completely blown away that my mom (oops Santa) would have known just how super-cool this kit was, especially since I don't think I ever whined about wanting one before Christmas - probably because I knew it was outside of our gift "reality" range. In other words, I'm sure I dreamed of getting one but just figured it was too extravagant for our family budget.

Or, perhaps it was the sheer "orange-ness" of it. It was just soooo huge and so modern and so cool! (images downloaded from ebay)
Yep, we're talking fully loaded here - complete with state of the art rechargeable electric Hot Wheel cars, a wind up charging station, and miles of track. I'm not sure I still wouldn't be thrilled to get one of these even now!
So that's just one memory of a million others, but a good one for sure. And at the risk of being politically incorrect, I would just like to wish everyone who reads this an extra special and very blessed Merry Christmas!
